On November 29, 1946, the Glendale Board of REALTORS® was formed with six charter members and G.A. White as president. The territory assigned to the board was everything west of Phoenix to the Maricopa County line. The board became a member of the National Association of Real Estate Boards in 1947. In 1969, the name was changed to Glendale-West Maricopa Board of REALTORS® to more accurately reflect its membership.

Major changes took place in 1982. Sun City area brokers formed their own board, the Sun City Area Association of REALTORS®, to serve the members in the Sun City area. Meanwhile, the Glendale-West Maricopa Board became a 25% shareholder in a new venture, the Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service, Inc. (ARMLS®), along with the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Southeast Valley associations. Today, ARMLS® is owned by these four local associations along with Western Pinal Association of REALTORS®.

In 2003, the Sun City association changed its name to the Lake Pleasant Regional Association of REALTORS®. In December of 2006, the Glendale-West Maricopa Board of REALTORS® and the Lake Pleasant Regional Association of REALTORS® joined forces once again to form the West Maricopa County Regional Association of REALTORS®. This new association had membership levels around 3,000-4,000 REALTOR® members.

Over the last seven decades, the association has grown from six charter members to be the fourth largest REALTOR® association in the state, with over 7,600 REALTOR® members and 450 affiliate members. Much has changed since 1946, but the association’s commitment to delivering the best service and support to its members has stayed the same.
